A visit of Ohiengen and Lorrach School, Germany 2009

Friendship happens in that special moment,

When someone reaches out to another,

Trusts, comforts, believes in another,

And makes a special difference that no one else can make.

Mayo College Ajmer(India) had invited the staff and students of Grund-und Hauptschule mit WRS 78337, Ohningen, Germany and Grandshule Tumringen, Freiburger Str. 310D-79539 Lorrach, Germany on an educational and cultural exchange programme from October 25 to November 7, 2009.

The primary objective of this exchange was to institute a link between the two countries, to pave way for the young boys to have an insight into the culture, traditions, food and habits of Germany and India. This programme was understandably a unique and demanding undertaking at this tender age.

The group actively participated in different school activities like morning assembly, art classes, computer classes and library sessions. They also attended some lessons of Science, English and History.

A cultural programme was put up by Mayoites to entertain and expose them to Hindustani music. The Germans also put up a song which was liked by one and all.  A spectacular Gymnastic, Karate, Skating, Yoga, Brass-band and Horse show was displayed, which mesmerized everyone. Giving real meaning to the school exchange, a few boys of Germany joined the display and showed their skills in Gymnastics and Trampoline.

A friendly football match was played between the guest and the host teams. Germans enthusiastically participated in 4 x 100m relay in the Inter-house athletics.

They tried their best to become a part of Mayo activities. They got opportunities for Horse riding, Swimming, Air-rifle shooting etc. In the house, during leisure time they played many indoor games and developed thick friendship.

The Visit to Parle – G Biscuit factory, Birla City Water Park and Amusement Park was a relaxing experience. Trek to the Jain temple at Narali and the experience of camel and bullock cart rides at “Swad-Ri-Dhani”, an open air restaurant gave a closer look at the living style of Indians. These visits proved the right places for everyone to mingle well.

In the farewell assembly, leader of the German Delegation, Mrs. Verena Robertson thanked Headmaster Mr.P.Chaturvedi, the staff and young Mayoites for organizing such a wonderful trip and expressed hope that this rich amalgamation of two cultures will be established as a tradition between the two nations.

The young ambassadors from Germany left the campus on October 2, 2009 for their sight-seeing tour to Ranthambhore, Fatehpur Sikri, Agra and Delhi. They left with fond memories, great learning experiences and a promise to visit again.

We, the young Mayoites had a wonderful opportunity to get acquainted with the Germans.

We bid them adieu with heavy a heart as this programme was nothing short of a dream come true.  Each day had been a pleasant one and highly rewarding.
