An Appeal to all Old Boys
As I see it, the role of the Old Boys’ Society (OBS) is two fold – one, to try and contribute towards the growth and betterment of Mayo College, and two, to help each other whenever we can. I think most of us would agree on this.
That being the case, what is needed is a directory (both in the electronic and print formats) where particulars of all Old Boys are available. These would include, apart from the address and phone number etc., the area of activity in which each is engaged, for e.g., the Finance sector, Medicine, Architecture, Civil service, Armed forces, Police, Science & Technology etc. Such a database would help the School or an Old Boy to tap that expertise as and when needed.
This issue had come up in the last meeting of the Board of Governors when the management of the school finances had come up for discussion. A number of members felt that here was an area where Old Boys could help. I accepted the task of providing the School with names of Old Boys who could be of help. That’s how the idea of compiling this database emerged.
