| 30 Sept, 2011 reminds me of the poem entitled ‘Travel’ composed by Robert Louis Stevenson, ‘the Prince of Essayists’. | |||||

Day 1: Six nights and seven long days, out of the gates of ‘Mayo’ was truly a dream come true. Merrily, we boarded the train ‘Hyderabad Express’ on 30 Sept and faster than fairies, faster than witches, charging along like troops in a battle, reached Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, on 1 Oct , 2011. |
Day 2: We stayed in ‘Rajhans’ and ‘Ashirwad’ – three – star hotels. After breakfast, we moved towards the Water Park – Fun City offering leisure. Merrily, we swam and enjoyed all the rides and the wave pool where light – hearted frolic filled the air. After lunch, with the wink of an eye, we were in the Amusement Park. We enjoyed a ride in the Freefall. The toy train and the bumping cars were a sheer delight. We also watched a 4D film which drove us to the imaginary world of Harry Potter. In the evening we enjoyed shopping in the mall. We bought souvenirs for our loved ones. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. |

Day 3: 2 Oct was the anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi – the Father of the Nation. After breakfast, we moved towards Sanchi, famous for Buddhist Monuments. The Stupas, Temple, Pillar, Monastery and Chaitya, etc. bear ample testimony to the fact that Sanchi was an important centre of Buddhist learning and propagation. Before coming to the actual theme about the Sanchi monuments, it is necessary to have some idea about the life of Buddha. All four Gateways (Toranas) of Sanchi carry depictions of the Jataka stories. Lord Buddha is shown here symbolically, through Chatra (parasol), house, elephant, throne, chakra (wheel), Tri-Ratna, monastery – site, Bodhi tree, etc. As per legends, he had taken several births before becoming Buddha, the enlightened one. The symbolic representations of the events of these previous births are shown here. The monument of Sanchi is inscribed on the world Heritage List, of U.N.E.S.C.O, under the United Nations Organization. Since 1977, India is a member state of the world – heritage body under U.N.E.S.C.O. On the way we crossed the Tropic of Cancer. From Sanchi, we moved towards Daarul – Uloom – Taj – Ul – Masjid, Bhopal. In devout supplication to the Supreme, we covered our heads with handkerchiefs and moved inside. As we were sitting on the steps, the call for prayer – Azaan – E – Asr was proclaimed. The Lord had showered his blessings on us before we left. Long live Mayo College, Ajmer. Emperor Ashok has rightly said, “One who respects the religion of others, excels his own one.” In the evening, we enjoyed boating in the lake. |
Day 4: On 3 Oct, 2011, we left Bhopal in the morning and moved for the Bhimbetka Caves. Bhimbetka is known for rock paintings and rock shelters. Images of hunting, war scenes, animals and birds, rituals and individuals are a common site on the rocks. We left behind Bhimbetka Caves and moved towards Pachmari. We reached Pachmari at night and stayed in a resort – “Misty Meadows”. Pachmari has been accorded the status of a queen. It is the Queen of the Satpura hill range. Lush green hillocks adorn Pachmari. Tourists fondly call it – Kashmir of Madhya Pradesh. Pachmari is situated 3555 feet high from the sea level. Its area including the forest area measures 360 square kilometers. The maximum temperature in summer remains 27.7 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is 8.3 degrees Celsius. Pachmari is a part of Hoshangabad district. |
Day 5: Morning began with adventure. Rock climbing, Rappelling, Burma Bridge, Valley Crossing, Commando Net etc. were the adventure sports in which all the boys took part. We retuned to the resort in the evening and enjoyed shopping. We bought mementoes for our loved ones. There was music in the air. At night, the boys danced merrily. |
Day 6: In the morning, we visited a museum called the Bison Lodge. About 1.5kms from Pachmari, the Forest Museum, popularly known as the Bison Lodge, introduces us to a rare collection of animals, birds, butterflies and plant species found in the Pacmarhi bio-sphere reserve. It is a historical landmark since it is associated with Captain J. Forsyth who is credited with discovering Pachmari as a Sanatorium for the British troops. From the Bison Lodge, we moved towards the Bee Fall. About 5kms away from the city, it is one of the finest falls, situated in the entrancing valleys of Pachmari. The imposing stream of water falls from the height of about 150’ and lends itself to adoration by the viewers. The boys enjoyed bathing. Hot ‘Maggi’ noodles were served, which no one could deny as hunger is the best sauce. Lunch was served in the hotel – Misty Meadows. In the evening, we enjoyed shopping for the third time. At night, prizes were given to the boys for excellence in various fields. Packing was done as the luggage had to be loaded in the buses. |
Day 7: On 6 Oct, 2011, at dawn we moved towards Itarsi and boarded the train at 1.35 p.m. ‘The Hyderabad All Super Express’ for Ajmer reached Ajmer on 7 Oct, 2011 at 3.00 a.m. At 4.15 a.m. we were back in the lap of our Alma Mater. |
